The Story of HartLee
Janelle was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer on September 19, 2003. When she found out that she would be losing her hair, her family all shaved their heads to support her. The hair was then wrapped up in plastic wrap and used as stuffing for a bear kit. Janelle's hair stuffed the legs because she had to "walk the walk," her mom and sister each filled up an arm to help hold her up, and her brother was behind the heart because even though he wasn't able to be with her physically (he lived halfway across the country), he was always in her heart. Filling the remaining areas with the stuffing that came in the kit and topping it all off with the teal shirt he came with (how ironic is that!?!?), he quickly became known as HartLee - after Janelle's two doctors - Dr. Hart and Dr. Lee. He came with her to all of her chemo sessions. While he may not be much to look at, he is now a present reminder of what can be accomplished when families stick together...and that it is what is on the INSIDE that counts!

Janelle vowed that she would find some way to help bring Ovarian Cancer awareness to the public so that women can be reminded to keep going to their doctors to get checked out. This is brought out with her own line of Ovarian Cancer awareness jewelry...The HartLee Collection. $2 from every purchase from the HartLee Collection is donated for Ovarian Cancer awareness. And that's not all! A portion of the proceeds made from other products on the site ALSO go to Ovarian Cancer awareness!! |
